3-6 day 31 on the walking home project

Day 31 — From GC De Rinck to Home

Before I even got Sybille out, I stumbled on something wonderful on the Dapperheidsplein — enormous posters made from children’s masks, a collaboration between a Flemish art school and a French-speaking ASBL. The sheer variety of faces. I’ve put a little film up, go and look.

Then we walked. 11.4 km, roughly on the spiral, roughly. I stopped to sew for a bit, and discovered that the standard on Sybille — the thing that holds everything up — has broken on both sides. So that needs fixing. That’s how it goes.

The weather turned and I walked through the rain anyway, sheltering in a bus shelter for a while. I only spoke to two people today. One woman said: greenery. From wherever home is, she needs to be able to see green, to know she can step into it. There’s a big park nearby and she loves to walk in it.

The other said: ailleurs. Somewhere else. She feels at home when she’s somewhere else.

I’ve been thinking about that ever since.

Walked home via a petrol station, took the short route, skipped the bit behind the railway. I’ll go back for that.

Today I decided not to walk because of rain — and then it didn’t really rain. I’m grumpy about it. C’est la vie. I did some admin and I finished my sculpture. She’s great. Photo coming when she’s ready. 🛒🧵
