day 22 8th of may

Day 22. 6.5 km on the spiral, 13.5 in total. So much happened on this one day that it already feels like it was weeks ago. I picked up Sybille l’atelier mobile from the garage and walked back a stretch to stay true to the spiral, stopped a few times in a beautiful park to work on my crochet project — lots of police, people already gathering, something going on — passed a lovely little church and the Huis van Creatie packed with children (didn’t ring the bell, too busy). Came past the royal greenhouses, open only a few days a year, and I happened to walk right by — didn’t even take a photo, just kept moving. The Chinese Pavilion. Two of them, one red, one golden with boats in a very sorry state. I’m building so many photo collections on this walk: street toilets, dumped laughing gas canisters (at least ten of those now), flowers, square buildings. I also called someone I’d met during Parcours des Artistes in Sint-Gillis, who lives near Onze-Lieve-Vrouwekerk in Laken — he’s keeping Sybille’s cart overnight so I can pick her up on Sunday. Then over an hour on metro and two trams to catch Vincent’s presentation at La Roseraie, just in time. It’s shaping up to be something beautiful — no words, just presence. Premiere is the 14th in Ath Came home exhausted, cooked something simple, watched a film. Upstairs the neighbours were having a party and I met a lovely young woman I’ll definitely visit on my route through the city. Today: Zinneke Soumonce (another general rehearsal). Sunday: back to Laken. The 31st I have an appointment in Molenbeek, three more Zinneke workshops, and the parade on the 30th. I’ll take the walking gently for now. Slowly forward. 🧵
