Parcours d’Artistes Sint-Gillis — April 2026
From March to November I’m walking a spiral through all 19 communes of Brussels with Sybille l’atelier mobile — my mobile atelier, complete with sewing machine. Along the way I collect what the city leaves behind: shoes, gloves, plastic, old photos. I stitch them together into artworks. Faces, stories, movement. And I ask everyone I meet: what makes you feel at home?
Part of that spiral led straight to Papa Douala, where I was invited to exhibit as part of the Parcours d’Artistes Sint-Gillis.
The opening night was stunning. Vincent helped me carry everything in, I worked and worked to set it all up, and just before people arrived it came together. At least forty people came through that first evening alone — Greek, Argentinian, Peruvian, Spanish, French, Ukrainian, Belgian, German. Exactly the kind of meeting that The Walking Home Project is about.
The weekend that followed brought 44 visitors on Saturday and 111 on Sunday. A constant flow. People sat with the work, asked questions, tried to find words for it. Someone said: it’s playful, but it’s more than that. It’s bold, but it’s more than that. That felt right.
I explained how I work: not from an idea, but from the material. The material finds its way to me. Co-creation with things that already exist.
The spiral continues. And I’m looking for collaborations along the route — with people, organisations, schools, community spaces, anyone who wants to cross paths with Sybille l’atelier mobile. You’re warmly welcome at thewalkinghomeproject.eu. all this is for sale also obviously!
